Just a "zebra" trying my best to live life to the fullest with EDS and POTS...and loving the ride.

One Year = A Giveaway

Written by Katie. Posted in Giveaways

Dear Readers,

November 8, 2010 was the first day I began this whole blogger thing.

This was my very first post.

At the time, I was very sick and was seeking a kind of therapy that I was not receiving elsewhere.  I began to blog and I quickly learned that writing became the kind of therapy I was looking for.

It’s hard to believe it has almost been a year. A year of many, many changes.  A year of learning and growth.  A year of renewed hope.  A year of learning how to cope.  A year of making life-changing adjustments, while learning the true meaning of “management.”

What I think is cool is that this crazy ride of a year has all been documented.  The various posts are here for me to go back and read whenever I feel the need.  They are even here for my kids to read someday.

Blogging has also helped me to find MY voice, as I have navigated through this world of change.

So I figured, why not celebrate my one year blogging anniversary by having a giveaway?  (Plus, I also think it is just plain fun to give things away).

So, here’s the deal:

If you would like to enter, leave a comment (on this blog post) telling me your first name, your link to your blog if you have one, and something that helps you get through tough times…(if it’s a song or quote, I’d love to know which one, as I am always adding to my quote and music collection).

…Or just leave a comment about anything.

Leave your comment by Tuesday, November 8 and by Thursday, November 10, I will pick a random winner to mail (for free) the giveaway prize.  The only hint I will give is that it is something special to me that has helped me get through this past year…and it is gender neutral.  Please be sure I have your email address to get your mailing info in case you win.

Even if I don’t know you, I would love for you to leave a comment.

Zebra love,

Katie

Katie, thank you for starting your blog. It’s wonderful people like you that have made my EDS journey bearable! You are a wonderful friend and I pray for you everyday. Good Ole Albert Einstein said “When you start to loose your balance in life, you’ve just got to keep going”! He was talking about us girl!
I love you! Congrats on 1 year!

Katie, I so much enjoy you opening your heart. I would have to say that I get through life on my knees handing it all over to God. He has gotten me (and my family) through some pretty tough times. I have found that He has broad shoulders and can carry everything that I cannot. You are such an inspiration and I applaud you for opening yourself up to make the world a better place. You are in my daily prayers!!!!

I find during times of personal growth and challenges – I often rely on music, and oddly the song ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen always brings a smile to my face! It’s even my default ringtone :)

Keep knocking out these posts – they’re an inspiration! We’re proud of you’re heart & ambition.

    Happy blog anniversary!

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit this but I listen to a playlist of Disney movie music. :)

Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?

A favorite of Father Jake Foglio’s and a favorite of mine. You are a beautiful writer, Katie, and I read every day. You’re doing what you were meant to do, and while I know it’s the most challenging thing that you’ve ever done- look at you go!

    Hi Katie!
No published blog yet, but will add you when I do for sure. Finally chipping away at my own emails, so seriously no worries at all. Take all the time you need… I’m not going anywhere, and neither is my POTS (I wish!). This drawing thing is such a cute idea… I figure ‘why not?’, I could use any little bit of magic to help me through the unpredictability of these rough days.
What helps me through? Lots of things… my mentor, Dr. Smith, has been a big one, but because I can’t send her in the mail, I’ll have to settle for something else :-) (I will most certainly share her wisdom though… always has a great perspective). I’ve really become quite reliant on music lately… on my iPod while running (cough… attempting… my efforts have been pathetic lately), in the car, at home.
Hope you enjoy, and I will definitely pass on new ones as I find them! A lot of them have a general faith theme; believing that God will pull me through this is definitely a source of strength, although is difficult to rationalize at times.
    “Stronger” by Mandisa
    “Just Stand Up” by Beyonce
“I’m letting go” by Francesca Batistelli
“Defying Gravity” by Idina Menzel (from the Wicked muscial… and it just happens to perfectly fit POTS patients :-))

    Have a good week… Wednesday tomorrow…halfway through!! :-)

    Take care,
    Steph

When I’m having a hard time and I want to put myself in a better mood, I listen to part of Stevie Wonder’s _Songs In the Key of Life_ album. Cece and I especially like to dance to “As”!
